THIRD PULSE

Third Pulse is a collaboration of three individual approaches to exploring rhythm and melody through the power of breath. At the core of this fusion, three primordial instruments – Mouth Harp, Didgeridoo and Beatbox – are aligned with intuitive synchronicity in an exploration of organic trance through contemporary underground beats.

Creating vibrant sonic landscapes of purely organic nature yet strikingly digital in character, Third Pulse transfuses rhythmical grooves with musical elements of the world. Nuances of psy-trance, hip hop, dubstep, trap, house, traditional, folk, jazz and funk, amongst others, are intertwined and woven together through the wefts of this audible fabric based on the human breath.

Within the musical ensemble of Third Pulse, the Didgeridoo lays down a deep drone and a solid, melodic foundation. The Mouth Harp injects harmonic vibrations and hallucinogenic rhythmic oscillations, while the Beatbox provides punchy and powerful bass notes bringing the audience and listeners into various states of ecstatic jubilation. Other instruments such as hulusi, drums, flute, tabla and kalimba are also incorporated at different times, and Third Pulse’s performances often include featured collaborations with other musicians.

Breathpulse is the band’s appellation for the intuitive synchronization between the rhythmical pulsations of their breaths, and these three unique musicians – Neptune Chapotin on Mouth Harp, Augustin Sol on Didgeridoo and Cameron Campbell aka MC Eucalips on Beatbox – are known collectively as The Breathpulse Trio.

In February 2017 at the 5th World Mouth Harp Festival of India in Goa, impromptu collaborations between these three individuals in separate pairs of Mouth Harp, Didgeridoo, and Beatbox sparked an intense understanding of synchronous alignment within a fortuitous triangle of creativity. They understood simply that the inherent inner groove within each other was parallel and matched, so without a single rehearsal to attempt playing even once together as a trio, they stepped up on stage on the 4th of March 2017 for their first concert in front of hundreds of people at the Goa Saturday Night Market.

The result was seamless, and The Breathpulse Trio had launched themselves as Third Pulse.

Performing thirteen concerts over the next six weeks, of music based purely on collective intuitive improvisation, they built an initial dedicated fan-following in India and then took off to Europe for the summer to continue performing in Italy, Switzerland, Germany and France in the summer of 2017.

After several more rounds of concert tours in India between 2018 and 2020, the trio is now currently in India since right through lockdown, and they are presently launching into yet another season of concerts.

INDIVIDUAL BIOS:

MC EUCALIPS

Cameron Martin Campbell aka MC Eucalips, otherwise known as Kamran “Khatarnak” Khan, is a world renowned beatboxer, drummer and mult-instrumentalist rapper and sound healer.

Of American and Australian descent he was born and raised in India, and is currently residing in Goa. In 2015 he was amongst the top 16 finalists in the American Beatbox Championship.  He has played and performed all over the world, from the jungles of Indonesia and the streets of Europe, to the slums of Delhi and Mumbai and festivals across the globe such as Symbiosis Festival. As the founder of Beatbox Without Borders, an organization dedicated to building cultural bridges and using beatboxing as a tool for healing transformation, he has judged and organized multiple beatbox battles in India and conducted a number of sound-healing experiences. A mutli-cultural person himself, his music catalyzes resonance across cultural and musical boundaries with a focus on inter-dimensional expression. Cameron regularly teaches beatbox workshops and plays with a variety of groups including Third Pulse, and he also performs as a solo artist.

NEPTUNE CHAPOTIN

Ranking amongst the world’s most acclaimed Mouth Harp players, Neptune Chapotin has been researching technique in playing the Mouth Harp since over a decade and a half. His self-taught style ranges from high-energy trance beats to dreamy melody modulations, with an infusion of rich acoustic reverb through rhythmic breath and trigger control. Born in India of French-American descent, Neptune’s long-time mission has been to promote the Mouth Harp, one of the most ancient instruments of the world, as a contemporary instrument in society today. A skilled player and teacher, he regularly travels to perform solo concerts and to teach Mouth Harp workshops at festivals across the globe, and in 2011 he earned the title of World Mouth Harp Virtuoso along with one of nine medals at the 7th International Mouth Harp Congress in Yakutia, Siberia. Together with his performance schedule, he also travels to find and meet master craftsmen of this instrument across the globe, researching the traditions and techniques of Mouth Harp making worldwide. He purchases Mouth Harps in each country and re-distributes them through his collection for retail & wholesale, called World Harps – Mouth Harps from Around the World. Neptune is also the founder and creative director since 2013 of the World Mouth Harp Festival of India, an annual grass-roots Participant-Powered music festival in Goa that has played a significant role in helping to raise Mouth Harp awareness in both the Indian sub-continent and worldwide. Having held as a dream since many years the desire to discover such synchronicity with other musicians in the vision of creating a band, Third Pulse is a project powered by motivation and passion.

AUGUSTIN SOL

Sol is a world-recognized didgeridoo player and teacher. Aside from Didgeridoo, he also plays flute, hulusi, and several other wind instruments.  After playing various wind instruments for many years, he became very passionate about the didgeridoo. He also became very interested in pedagogy, and he questioned himself as to what could be the most efficient way to transmit knowledge of this ancient yet very technical instrument. His experimentations led him to create Corrobo’Rythm, an association in Bordeaux (France) to gather people around the didgeridoo, and to use this pedagogic approach in teaching them to play. Having led countless classes and workshops to youth in public schools, he continues working on his approach of teaching his art to people of any background. His workshops include all curious people, whether children or adults, beginners or advanced players. He leads workshops of different categories for beginner, intermediate, or advanced players. Living for the last two years in India while collaborating with performers from all over the world, his musical inspirations have ignited dynamite with the creation of the band Third Pulse.
