Baku Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum

The Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum was established on March 13, 1967. At the time of its creation, it was the only specialized carpet museum in the world. The most important tasks of this institution are the storage, research and demonstration of unique samples of carpet art, which is the national heritage of Azerbaijan.

The oldest piece of carpet art in the museum is a fragment of the Tabriz carpet “Ovchulug” of the XVII century. Another valuable exhibit of the museum is the XVIII century carpet “Hila Afshan”, woven in the village of Hila (Amirjan) near Baku. Some of the carpets presented in the museum are family heirlooms sold or donated to the museum. Among them are the khurjun (traditional bag) of 1724, which was a gift from the groom to the bride, as well as a horse blanket of 1727.
